This picture illustrates a message that I repeat over and over in my travels and one that I truly believe- "Every journey starts with the first step". We so often see the end result of a person's hard work and dedication but we often have no frame of reference of where that person started, and the amount of time, effort, and dedication it took to get where they are today.
I began thinking about a figure competition I recently attended. The 10 girls that were onstage were all lovely and had bodies that most women would kill for. However, there were a few that were not QUITE as sculpted and tight as the others--but they were up there, giving it all they had. I began to wonder about what journey brought each woman to the stage at that moment in time. What was each individual woman's story? One could have been 40 pounds overweight a year ago and busted her butt to make it onstage. No, she wasn't quite sculpted enough to place or win, but she may have triumphed over adversities that we audience members would never know of, transformed her body into a fit/healthy machine, and reached a personal goal--which is something much more important than a judges critique.
Most importantly of all--they had the courage to take that first step. I'm sure there were missteps, setbacks and obstacles along the way but they kept at it. By the time they walked onstage, they were already winners in my book!
